Any person or organisation is now able to apply to have projects that will deliver significant regional or national benefits considered for Fast-track approvals.
The Fast-Track Approvals Act already includes a list of 149 projects that can apply directly to an expert panel. These projects can take their plans to the next step through the one-stop shop.
The Environmental Protection Authority is administering the one-stop shop platform and the expert panel process. The Ministry for the Environment is the legislation owner and manages the Ministerial referral process.
Mining permits included Fast-track Approvals one-stop-shop
Petroleum and minerals mining permits under the Crown Minerals Act 1991 (CMA) may be granted under the Fast-track Approvals Act through the one-stop shop. These applications can be considered in two situations:
- where a mining company seeks to convert an existing CMA exploration permit into a mining permit following a successful discovery of a mineral deposit; or
- where a mining company seeks to replace an existing privilege, such as a Coal Mining Licence issued prior to the enactment of the CMA, with a mining permit. Prospecting and exploration permits are not included in the Bill.
