Queenstown area aeromagnetic survey

Publish date: 17 January 2020

NZP&M’s aeromagnetic survey project will recommence flights over Queenstown and neighbouring areas from the middle of January 2020.

Thomson Aviation is operating a helicopter over these areas to measure magnetic fields and natural radiation.

The aim of the survey is to get better insights into the mineral potential of these areas. The data gathered will be available free to industry and the public, providing valuable information for potential investors.

The survey is part of an $8 million government investment in new data, which was announced in Budget 2014. Of this, $6 million was dedicated to these surveys.

This operation, which will conclude by the end of March 2020 will complete a data acquisition project that began in the summer of 2015/16.

The data gathered may also provide insights on fault lines, information on aquifers and soils which can help local authorities make decisions on land use, environmental planning and engineering and construction projects.

If you have any operational concerns please call Thomson Aviation on 021 269 6870.
